Why Read? Geeze it's SUMMER!

Horizons National The cumulative effect of not reading during the summer adds up. The child who does not continue to keep their mind active and read during the summer months will loose 2 to 3 years of schooling by fifth grade.
On the other hand, a child whose mind stays active and reads more than six books during the summer, will typically gain a month of instruction.

An Attempt to Help
The goal of this website and its suggested activities is to make sure students have access to books and plenty of new titles to explore. Included are creative suggestions designed to inspire reading and a list of local experts willing to support parents and their children during the summer months.

- The Marin County Public Libraries have wonderful activities designed to encourage reading and make the experience social.
- Bel Aire now has a digital library that is available anytime and anywhere there is Internet.
- The Book Passage, in Corte Madera, has an enthusiastic staff in the children's book department that will know exactlly how to find just the right book for your child.
- The Bel Aire Pen Pal project is designed to help make the reading experience social and interactive. Not only will children receive book recommendations but also receive them from respected peers.
